Privacy Policy
Dear Mira exists to preserve your family’s stories — so the way we treat your data matters as much as the product itself. This summary reflects how we operate during early access; a fuller policy will follow as the product matures.
Your data is yours
In short: you own everything you upload, and we never sell it or train public AI on it.
Everything you upload and create — conversations, photographs, recordings, and the finished biography — belongs to you. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your family’s stories to train public AI models. You can export the full documentary and a book-quality PDF at any time.
What we collect
We collect the content you provide to build a biography (uploads and interview recordings), the account information needed to sign you in, and basic, privacy-respecting analytics about how the site is used so we can improve it. If you make a free Memory Spark without an account, we collect the email address you give us solely to send you your film’s link; Sparks and their photos are deleted after 30 days. We do not place your personal information in URLs or share it with advertisers.
How we use it
Your content is used solely to generate and host your biography and to let the people you invite view and contribute to it. Processing involves trusted service providers acting on our behalf and bound to protect it: transcription and writing (OpenAI, Anthropic), narration (ElevenLabs), storage and hosting (Supabase, Vercel, Cloudflare), and — only if you turn on face finding — facial recognition (Amazon Web Services, Amazon Rekognition).
Face finding
In short: faceprints exist only for the subject (with consent if living) and the confirmed deceased, live in your biography’s private vault alone, and are destroyed — verifiably — the moment you stop finding someone.
If you enable face finding, DearMira creates a faceprint (a mathematical measurement of a face) only for the subject of your biography — with their own consent if living — and for family members you confirm are deceased. We never create faceprints of anyone else. Faceprints are processed on our behalf by Amazon Web Services (Amazon Rekognition), are stored in a private vault that belongs to your biography alone, are never compared across customers, never sold, and never used to train AI models. To find matches, our processor briefly analyzes the faces in your photos for comparison; nothing is retained about people who don't match. A faceprint is destroyed — and destruction is confirmed with our processor — immediately when any of the following occurs:
- you stop face finding for that person;
- a living person withdraws their permission;
- the source photos are deleted and nothing else references it;
- or you delete the biography or your account.
Faceprints exist no longer than the biography they belong to.
Sharing & accesscorrected
In short: your biography is private to the people you invite; we disclose data only under a valid legal process, and tell you where the law allows.
A biography is private to you and the family members you invite. Share links you create can be revoked at any time. We disclose data only under a valid legal process, and where the law allows it we will tell you before we do.
Deletioncorrected
In short: deletion now removes content from active systems and backups on a stated schedule, and destroys any faceprints with it.
You can request deletion of your account and its associated content at any time. We remove it from active systems right away and from backups on our providers’ stated rotation schedules. Any faceprints created by face finding are destroyed with it, and their destruction is confirmed with our processor.
